Technological Gap: Paths of Rich and Poor
Technology one of the greatest invention and innovation created by humankind. Technology serves as tool that made a revolution in our world. But, does technology increases the gap between rich and poor? Or it does the opposite effect.
Undoubtedly wealth is one factor that really separates the social status of a person, and technology is the one factor that affects it. As for the reason is the automation. By the use of technology, automation reduces the need for manual labor and almost everything, and as a result, less work opportunities are available for unskilled people.
Technology is said, to help uplift people’s lives. But the question is, whose lives? It is one undeniable fact that the rich and well educated people are the ones that benefits the most in the creation of technology. They have almost all of the access into most of the innovations made by technology which the poor cannot afford.
Information which made the world enter a new era through globalization was also greatly affected by technology. See the nations throughout the world, most of them are the riches nation in the world. Unlike the nations who lacked the access through information and technology was being left behind in this world where technology reign’s it all.
With new computers and automation increasingly permeating not only manufacturing but also services, those with less familiarity with or access to the Internet, computers, and smartphones are left at a considerable disadvantage. This causes to widen the gap between rich and poor people.
However, on the other hand, some people think that technology is the one that made the gap between rich and poor lessen. Say for example, the sites, trends, and most of the new innovations were made by people whose backgrounds are not of those rich people. For them technology was their path to success bridging the gap between rich and poor.
Technology was the key opportunity that will help them towards success. Some people now use the internet to earn money, like how those vloggers post their videos in YouTube, Facebook, and etc. By only few touches and work with use of technology they have made more opportunities to come to them.
Technology increases knowledge. Lack of adequate education is one of the biggest challenges to curbing poverty. The internet and other technological innovations such as TV are able to educate the masses on various issues including better production, hygiene and dealing with disease outbreaks.
This also helps the poor acquire the chance to be lessened of their problems, just with the right use of technology. The government offers free seminars and programs like TESDA, which trains people and help them get jobs especially the poor ones. Also technology helps charities using the internet and peer-to-peer platforms to raise cash to help the poor or support innovations to improve the welfare of the needy miles away.
In conclusion with use of technology, people’s lives will become more easier and more opportunities will come. However it depends on how one will use technology since it is a very powerful innovation that can make a revolution in the world. That is why the use of technology will either widen or bridge the gap between rich and poor people that will lead into either the success or ruin of one life.
